BCHS reports two in care with COVID-19

The Brant Community Healthcare System on Friday reported two people hospitalized with COVID -19, down from the three who were in hospital on Wednesday.

Of the people in hospital, none is in intensive care.

The Brant County Health Unit was reporting seven new cases over the past 24 hours and 15 over the past 48 hours. The numbers are likely underreported because of limited testing.

There have now been 10,221 confirmed cases since the pandemic started in March of 2020, with 10,115 of those resulting in recovered cases.

There are currently 35 active cases in the community but that number is also likely underreported.

There have been 71 deaths reported since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.

Of the patients admitted to hospital, 129 have been unvaccinated for a rate of 714.33 per 100,000 people, while 243 have been fully vaccinated for a rate of 213.11/100,000. In ICUs, 15 people were unvaccinated for a rate of 82.41/100,000 and 26 were fully vaccinated for rate of 22.84/100,000.

As for vaccinations, there have been 338,047 total doses of the vaccine administered at vaccination clinics in Brantford-Brant. In Brantford-Brant, 84.57 per cent of residents, aged five and older, have received one dose of the vaccine, while 81.59 per cent have received two or more doses.

Walk-in vaccination clinics will be held at Lynden Park Mall (near Entrance 4) n Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The area's lone outbreak is at Charlotte Villa from June 22, involving one resident and two staff members.

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic and Grand Erie district school boards are reporting the percentage of absences for students and staff at each of their schools. As of Wednesday, there were five active cases on Six Nations of the Grand River and 13 people self-isolating

No one from Six Nations is currently hospitalized with the virus.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,656 confirmed COVID cases on Six Nations.

Exact numbers are not available but 55 per cent of the population has received a dose of the vaccination, with 51 per cent competing their vaccination series.

There have been 24 COVID -19 deaths on Six Nations since the start of the pandemic two years ago.

On Thursday, Public Health Ontario reported 486 people in hospital, with 96 in intensive care.

More than 61,000 COVID-19 tests were administered over the past week, with a positivity rate of 7.6 per cent. That is up from the 6.9 per cent rate a week earlier.

There were 21 new COVID-19 deaths over the past week and there have been 13,378 deaths in the province since the start of the pandemic.
